Both Ysgol Terrig and Ysgol Parc Y Llan would be grateful to receive any vouchers that you have in pockets, purses, cars etc.

The vouchers can be used for various projects within the schools, but the more vouchers – the more choice they will have.

You don’t have to have children at the schools to help.

Meetings were held on 07/02/12, 22/02/12 and 06/03/12 between 6pm and 7.30pm in the Treuddyn Village Hall.

-    Ysgol Parc Y Llan (English/bilingual)
-    Sir y Fflint Dros Addysg Cymraeg (SYFFLAG)
-    Cylch Ti a Fi a Meithrin Terrig
-    Treuddyn Under 5s
-    Treuddyn Community Association
-    Treuddyn Young Farmers

The purpose of the meetings was to create a discussion group, in order to develop a Welsh communities action plan to promote and safeguard the Welsh language in the village.

After discussing five key areas for preservation and promotion of the language, the following action points were agreed upon.

Treuddyn Action Plan
1.    To celebrate the Urdd turning 90 with activities and a community exhibition.
2.    To re-launch the Urdd aelwyd / adran / isadran and increase the Urdd’s presence in the area.
3.    Sports sessions available to young people through the medium of Welsh.
4.    An art heritage project to create an installation for the village hall.
5.    Work to ensure a TWF officer for Flintshire, to raise awareness of the advantages of being bilingual from birth.
6.    Support parents who send their children into Welsh medium education, to make them aware of the support available to families, by holding open evenings     and information stands
7.    More Welsh language events within the Cylch Ti a Fi.
8.    Host information stands / presentations / exhibitions which will raise awareness of the advantages of Welsh medium education.
9.    Seek to establish Welsh for Adults classes within the village.
10.  Encourage parents to send their children to Welsh secondary education by strengthening the links between primary and secondary school.
11.   Create a Welsh language social club – Trigolion Terrig.
12.   Encourage local establishments to make greater use of the Welsh language in marketing, and to make good bilingual use of the local press and new media.
13.   Identify volunteers within the community who are able to translate text for the Treuddyn.org website into Welsh on demand.
14.   Host an evening to enable local businesses to network and learn more about the advantages of bilingual marketing.

They are pleased to announce that the world famous Glanaethwy Choir will be making a return appearance along with a traditional Irish Band flown in from from Southern Ireland and a variety of other local artists.

There will be plenty of food and drink available on the night and ample seating and parking.

Treuddyn has always been very proud of the fact that the first branch of Urdd Gobaith Cymru ( a Welsh league of youth) was formed here, due to the vision and enthusiasm of Marion E Williams of Llan Farm (near St Mary’s Church), in 1922.

A plaque was presented by Treuddyn Community Council to mark the occasion of the 75th anniversary in 1997.  This can be seen on the wall of Llan farm – Urdd.

The Urdd has gone from strength to strength as a national entity, and still holds an annual national eisteddfod as well as running camps for sporting activities and socialising.  Now it is National and there are 15,000 participants each year -
the National Urdd Eisteddfod will be taking place in Flint in 2016.

This year gives reason to celebrate, since it has continued to flourish for 90 years.

Treuddyn celebrated the Urdd’s achievements when it was 50, 70 and 75 years old, when a portfolio of activities, original members, etc was collected. We are keen to display this memorabilia again – were you on the committee responsible for the celebrations in 1992 or 1997?  If so, or if you have a keen interest in helping us to stage an exhibition during this year, please contact Mary Roberts 770219 or Ceinwen Paryy 771333.

What is the Urdd?

Sandra Martin, a Treuddyn resident has been planting a woodland of 2750 native broadleaf trees on approx half of her fields with the help of volunteers.  It is part of a Welsh Government Glastir scheme to convert agricultural land to woodland.

This was grant funded through a carbon planting scheme but Sandra gave more consideration and wanted to have a programme of planting broadleaf, native species that had a bias towards Biodiversity and Amenity.  These included Ash, Cherry, Birch, Oak, Alder, Aspen, Hazel, Hawthorn, Crab Apple, Holly, Guelder rose and willow.

The woodland will probably take approximately 10-15 years to reach thicket stage and 20-25 years for canopy closure to occur and Sandra has a management plan is in place for the next 10 years so trees will be coppiced (thinned out) leaving the best and strongest ones as Standards.  The vegetation and shrub will then provide fantastic habitat to entice birds, insects and other wildflife back to the area.

All the varieties are native broadleaf and shrub and will attract plant and wildlife species back to the area and also reduce carbon footprint.

The woodland will be called Blossom Wood after the little girl featured in one of the photos, (she is the granddaughter of Sandra’s partner)

Treuddyn Community Council committed to fund the new look magazine going forward but with escalating costs the decision was made to reduce the number of editions from 10 per year to 6.
