Fantastic season for Treuddyn cricketer

Sammi BatCongratulations to 14 year old Sammi Short who has completed a phenomenal cricket season for 2014.

Last year Sammi played for Cricket Wales U13s but travelling commitments – with over 4,000 miles driven for matches and training – proved too much, so although she was selected for Cricket Wales U15s this year she opted to move to Cheshire U15s (with Wales’ permission). In her first season with Cheshire she took 17 wickets for the U15s and a further 10 wickets playing for the U17s and has established herself as a key bowler in both squads.

On recommendation from Cheshire Youth Cricket Sammi was put forward for ECB Talent Testing at Loughborough University and she has attended 2 days – one in May for a 50 over game and one in September for T20 and skills testing – this is an on-going process where county players who show potential for the England U15 and U19 Academy are monitored.

Sammi was able to play for Cheshire as her senior ladies team – Hawarden Park CC – plays in the Cheshire League.  Her great season was enhanced by Hawarden Park winning Cheshire Div 3 and the Development Knockout Cup and Sammi personally was awarded Best Fielder Div 3.  She finished the season as top wicket taker for HPCC with 15 wickets and scored a great 170 runs with the bat.

Sammi also plays for Pontblyddyn CC where she captained the U13s this season – this is the club that started her passion for cricket.

The NE Wales Girls U13s was reformed as a hub for regional girls cricket this season – Sammi helps the team by assisting coaches Tony Moss and Gary Short and she hopes to do her ECB young coaches award in 2015. This newly formed team also had a great season winning 4 of their 6 fixtures in the Cheshire U13s West League.

After a short break, winter training for N E Wales starts in October and Cheshire in November while nets for Hawarden CC and Pontblyddyn CC resume in the New Year – no rest for the wicked!
