gasFinally, gas to Treuddyn could be a reality thanks to Flintshire County Council Housing department wanting to invest in their houses and helping all residents deal with fuel poverty.

There are 86 council properties in Treuddyn and Wales & West Utilities need 33 private residents to be interested in buying into the scheme for it to be viable, which will equal 30% of the community.

They are then hoping that 70% more will be connected over a 20 year period.

A letter will be sent to 425 properties in the area and a response is needed by this December.

If accepted, plans will start in April next year and all work will be completed in 6 months. 7.5 km of pipe needs to be laid and the plan is to bring it up Ffordd y Bont.

The cost will be £4,282 per home for the connection and this will fixed should anyone want to join over the next 20 years plus an amount for inflation.

A new boiler, central heating conversion could be an extra £2,000 depending what needs doing, a council surveyor can offer free advice.

Anyone over 70 years of age will qualify for a grant of £2,778, plus there may be other grants available.

Those not entitled to grants can apply for a low interest loan.

Free impartial advice will be given by the FCC officer, her contact details will be in the letter, or Carolyn will give them to you if you contact her.

There will also be other advice available regarding insulating your home, they will be on hand to help.

The connections are made by tunneling under drives so there is less disruption and damage.
