Treuddyn teen selected for England U21 indoor cricket squad

Indoor Cricket World Cup 201716 year old Sammi Short from Treuddyn has been selected for the England U21 womens indoor cricket squad, with the prospect of competing in the Indoor Cricket World Cup in Dubai later this year.

A surprise call to take part in matches for the National Indoor Cricket League immediately led to an invitiation to training and trials for the England selection tournament in Birmingham at which she finished top of the rankings for all players – men, senior women and U21 women.



Sammi started playing cricket at Pontblyddyn Cricket Club when she was 6, later playing for North East Northants County GroundWales (NEW) girls U13 and U15 at a regional level. She played one season for Wales U13s girls (finishing top wicket taker) then spending the last three seasons playing for Cheshire where she currently holds the all time wicket-taking records for both girls U15s and U17s teams. Sammi made her debut for Cheshire Women’s senior side in Division 3 of the County Championship last season, and was lucky enough to play at Northamptonshire County Cricket ground amongst many others. She has also represented the Cheshire Women’s League XI against the MCC women’s team at the end of last season.

bowlingSammi started playing senior ladies cricket at Hawarden Park Cricket Club at 12 years old and has played in the Cheshire Women’s Cricket League since then. She moved to Division 1 team, Chester Boughton Hall, and helped them win both the League Championship and T20 Divisional League in 2016.

Sammi enjoys coaching as well as playing – taking her ECB Activator and ECB Coach Support qualifications whilst waiting to take her ECB level 2 Coaching qualification.  She assists coach Tony Moss at NEW girls cricket training and helps with the CBH CC thriving girls section.
