Treuddyn Urdd Project on BBC tv Tues 19th Feb

The Treuddyn Urdd Heritage Lottery Funded project, along with another scheme based in Nottingham was selected to appear on BBC Breakfast television alongside an interview with Michael Wood where they will be covering the launch of Heritage Lottery Funds new small grants programme, `Sharing Heritage’.

Interviews were carried out in the village hall with Treuddyn residents Ceinwen Parry and Dylan Drew who also did the recitation that took him to the finals of the National Urdd Eisteddfod.  Ceinwen talked about growing up in the village and how three generations of her family were involved with the Urdd Gobaith Cymru.  A further interview was made outside with Cllr Carolyn Thomas who described what the grant funding would be used for and the importance of preserving the history and heritage of the village, the Urdd, and the Welsh language.

A huge folder of memorabilia has been collected over the years including photographs, badges, banners, videos and posters.  This is being digitised by Project Manager, Lorna Jenner with the help of Maes Garmon pupils as part of their Welsh Baccalaureate qualification.  A timeline has been produced showing images from 1922 to 2012 of young people performing in the Urdd, playing the harp, singing, reciting, dancing and also going to Glan Llyn on activity holidays from school.  A book will be produced with photos and anecdotal stories, these will be captured by Ysgol Terrig and Ysgol Parc y Llan year 5 and 6 pupils who will be interview residents from the older generation.  The children will learn interviewing techniques in preparation.

On Satuday 6th April from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm there will be an open day in the village hall where everyone who belonged to the local Adran, took part in the Urdd or National Urdd Eisteddfod or even went on trips with the Adran and schools are invited to attend.  We would like them to bring any photos and recount stories.
A film will be made of recordings and old footage and put on the Treuddyn website and the Urdd website.
